In Mrs. Crome's class, students on the 7 Red Team presented their Social Studies projects using Teams on their e-learning day. These projects challenged students to show the rising conflict between Colonials and the British leading up to the Declaration of Independence. Students were to create a visual that tells the story by upcycling, recycling and using materials they already had without spending money. Their projects and presentations were amazing!

At CMS, 7th grade students have been working on research projects and presentations highlighting significant events and people from Colonial America in Mrs. Crome's class. This standards-based project has allowed for student voice and choice while promoting critical thinking, analysis of historical information and evaluation of primary sources. Below are examples of two students who focused on Colonial Women and the struggles they faced for rights and equality. Jacey Smith's project highlights the struggles of Mary Aggie, an African-America slave who went to trial for her freedom on the ground of her religious beliefs. Alex Matheny's project includes Phyllis Wheatley, a person enslaved and brought to North America at the age of seven or eight, who learned to read and write and published books of poetry. Christine Pschirrer researched the Atlantic Slave Trade and the life story of Olaudah Equiano. Equiano came to these continents enslaved, traveled the world and wrote an autobiography. Christine's class activity was to guess the number of Skittles in the jar. This jar represents the average number of people who traveled across the Atlantic enslaved on ships from Africa. The number Skittles in the jar was 400.

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in January, students in Mrs. Crome's EPIC class researched his quotes using the themes of rights, equality, fairness and civic responsibility. The students traced their own hands, placed the quote on their hands, presented their quote to the class and shared meaning or application are displaying "teamwork huddle" on the class bulletin board by being a team and "all in" for these themes in our school. This activity is part of our school initiative and implementation of the 7 Habits / Leader in Me in our Advisory curriculum. These quotes will remain in the front of our classroom through the month of February.
This project highlights the importance and contributions of enslaved people brought from Africa to Jamestown and the role they played in the establishment of England's first permanent settlement in the New World.
This is a poem and accompanying sculpture were made by a 7th grade student as part of a final project for the class novel, Day of Tears by Julius Lester. Hard Day's Work 7th Grade Gold Team Picking cotton is hard work Our hands would bleed as we peeled it off To stop for a break, you were sure to get a beating Though that wasn’t the end of the struggle We worked till sundown Almost promised to have a sunburn across our back by the end Our sliced-up hands would burn as we carried the cotton back Our water was scarce, so most days we went thirsty When we arrive home, we are tried but we must care for our family We cook We clean And when the day is done, we just have as much work the next day The only time we will have peace is the day we pass.

Good morning. With the new information being released late on Friday, we have learned that CMS boys basketball may officially begin their season. We know this is short notice, but below is the schedule for tomorrow's try-out. Remember, the boys must have a current physical on file in order to try- out. Here are the tryout times for both groups: Monday (1/25/21) 7th Grade:  3:30-5:15 8th Grade:  5:15-7:00 Please be aware that after the tryout has ended, we will meet with each player individually to inform them on whether or not they made the team.  It will take a little bit of time for us to get through each player.  Once their meeting is over they will be free to go.  If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to reach out to us.  Thank you and we are looking forward to getting to play.
