Competency-Based Courses

Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, all courses in the CHS World Languages Department will be delivered with the competency-based model.

The following 5 competencies reflect the skill areas we will be scoring in this model:

  • Vocabulary

    • Students will demonstrate mastery of key vocabulary across themes and topics appropriate to their skill level.

  • Grammatical Structures/Verb Tenses

    • Students will demonstrate mastery of key target language grammatical structures appropriate to their skill level.

  • Culture/Cultural Connections

    • Students will develop awareness of the target culture/cultures through exploration of and comparison with their native culture.

  • Verbal Communication

    • Students will communicate orally in and understand the spoken target language on a wide range of topics appropriate to their skill level.

  • Written Communication

    • Students will produce and understand written communication in the target language on a wide range of topics appropriate to their skill level.
