What is Competency Based Education?
Informational Sessions for CUSD Number One Parents
Competency Based Education (CBE) is changing how we serve students at Charleston CUSD#1. This year, there are 24 teachers who are piloting Competency Based Education practices. If your child’s teacher is one of them, you received a letter in the Fall about CBE. More teachers will implement CBE practices next year. Over the next several years, we all will begin to notice changes to our students’ education. There will be changes in how they learn, how their learning is graded and reported, how teachers structure the classroom environment, and how your child views their role in the learning process.
Because we value parents as partners in education, we encourage you attend any of the sessions listed below to learn more about Competency Based Education! These sessions will be informal and tailored to the specific age of the students in each building. Each session will consist of a brief presentation and an opportunity for questions and open discussion with some of the teachers and administrators involved in the CBE pilot. There will also be light refreshments available.
