Mark Twain students had the best time tie dying our Leader in Me shirts yesterday and can't wait to see how they turn out! Thank you CHS athletes, CMS art students, and EIU women's basketball team for helping us. We will have 1-2 "Leader in Me shirt days" per month and we encourage students wear their shirts on those days. Shirts will be sent home October 18.

It is an exciting week at Mark Twain. We have had two weeks to learn routines and procedures and we are ready to start adding on some special privileges and opportunities for kids. Today we picked our first school-wide Star Students AND we had our first pledge leader. Each day, Mrs. Titus will have one student lead the Pledge of Allegiance on the morning announcements.

We had our first books earned from the book vending machine at Mark Twain today! Each week our school-wide star students earn a token to the book vending machine. Students also have the opportunity to earn tokens for being a leader, achieving academic and/or social emotional goals, and for many other reasons!

We are always striving to make Mark Twain the best environment for all children and this summer we were able to make the playground and nurse's office even more inclusive with the installation of two communication boards. A communication board is a tool that students can use to express themselves and communicate their needs and wants. The boards promote independence and improve social interaction among all children. Thank you to our former SLP, Brittany MacColl and the Excellence in Education Foundation for helping us get these new additions!

Instead of doing traditional fundraisers, Mark Twain partners with our local Domino's Pizza to have monthly fundraising nights. On the 3rd Thursday of every month, 15% of ALL orders (dine-in, carry out or delivery) placed between 4pm and 8pm is donated to Mark Twain. Our first pizza fundraising night of the year is tomorrow.
