Miss Gaston's class met their lead measures 100% last week! Today, we celebrate! MAP, we are coming for you👊🏼👊🏼#jeffersoncusd1
Some Jefferson students enjoyed a trip to Fire Station 1 on Tuesday the 14th. They got a tour of the station and learned about fire safety. #jeffersoncusd1
Last week in JES Science Club we learned to build a beam bridge using straws and tape, then turn it into a suspension bridge using strings. As expected, the suspension bridge was stronger, as measured by the 'buckets' filled with marbles it could hold. #jeffersoncusd1
Jefferson Eco-Team had a great day at the Douglas Hart Nature Center Eco-Meet! Great job to all the schools out there, we enjoyed making new friends!
Last week in the JES Science Club we learned about gravity and how drag can slow down a falling object. So, we built a parachute or two and we tested how it works! A toy without a parachute falls harder and faster than the same toy attached to a parachute due to the air trapped by the parachute! #jeffersoncusd1
Last week in JES Science Club we learned how to build and close a paper circuit. LEDs were light up, designs were created, struggles were overcome! We learned that electricity can travel from the small battery, through the copper tape, to the LED and back only if the circuit is closed, and that polarity matters! We created a parallel circuit with multiple LEDs and noticed that different colored LEDs light up with different light intensity. Fun was had by all! #jeffersoncusd1
Our JES staff enjoyed dressing up in costume for the Fall Parade. Our 4th grd teachers dressed up as Barbie & Ken, our 5th grd teachers dressed up as Grammer Police, our 6th grd teachers dressed up as Disney characters and our principals dressed up as runners. #jeffersoncusd1
At JES today, Broomhilde (Jessica Mertz) kicked off Halloween festivities by reading spooky poetry to Mrs. Niemerg's and Mrs. Ackers class. #jeffersoncusd1
All District Bands (JES, CMS & CHS) did an amazing job during Band Night at the CHS football game on Oct.20.
JES 4th gd. artists recently studied the works of pop artist Andy Warhol. They also learned about monochromatic color scheme. They created their own pop art projects using monochromatic colors. Pictured are the 4th gd. Awesome Artists. Not pictured Aiden Anderson. #jeffersoncusd1
Last week in the JES Science Club we had fun building Geodesic Domes using toothpicks and gummy candy or mini marshmallows. A geodesic dome is a sphere-like structure made up of interconnecting triangles. We ended up with strong structures that use little building materials. Using the existing materials any other way to build structures resulted in weak and messy buildings. (We had to try!) #jeffersoncusd1
At JES the functional class has been mixing primary colors to create secondary colors. They created jellyfish after making violet paint. #jeffersoncusd1
The JES 5th grade art classes recently studied about Mexican folk art, including Mexican mirrors. They used a variety of media to create their own Mexican mirror. Pictured are the 5th grade Awesome Artists. Not pictured Tripp Hendrickson. #jeffersoncusd1
The JES 6th grade classes recently studied the works of Brazilian graffiti artist Rafael Highraff. They created a 3-dimensional collage using organic shapes, and warm and cool colors. Not pictured Carsten Stine. #jeffersoncusd1
Jefferson 4th graders helped plant fall flowers in the Jefferson Legacy Rock Garden. Thank you to all the parents and community members who have donated flowers and tools to help our garden grow! #jeffersoncusd1
Congratulations to Ms. Gaston! She is a winner of the Fall 23 New Teacher Mini-Grants sponsored by the Central Illinois Rural School Collaborative.
Last week in JES Science Club: We played with magnets of various strengths as they moved iron filings inside transparent tubing. As expected, the fridge magnets were pretty and not very good at this job, but the neodymium magnets & ceramic magnets were quite good! #jeffersoncusd#
At JES on Thursday, Ms. Hutton's PM class enjoyed reading and interacting with their 5th grade reading buddies from Mrs. Larson's class. #jeffersoncusd1
At JES this week, Mrs. Spanhook's students were synergizing by assisting our LiM Create a Leadership Environment team develop a Legacy Rock Garden in the front of JES. This is a work in progress, and when finished we are look forward to enjoying it for years to come.
JES would like to give a special THANK YOU to Ace Hardware for donating the mums. #jeffersoncusd1
We learned so much last week in Science Club at JES!
First, we learned about refraction, the bending of light as it travels from one medium into another. After seeing that arrows flip horizontally when placed behind a glass of water, we noticed our faces also change... and hilarity ensued.
The second half of class, we looked at the results of our germs experiment. After the germs spent one week in an incubator, we were able to see the bacteria or fungi colonies using a magnifying glass. We promise to wash our hands more often!
