Aaron Lock - Principal
My name is Aaron Lock. I am excited to be the Principal at Carl Sandburg Elementary School. It is truly a wonderful school!
I live here in Charleston with my family. My wife is a Registered Nurse and our two children attend Charleston Schools.
I grew up in Altamont. Before moving to Charleston in 2017, I taught and coached in the Salem and Altamont districts. I attended Lake Land College earning my Associate’s degree in 2007. I earned my Bachelors from Eastern Illinois University in 2009. I completed my Masters in Educational Leadership from EIU in 2014. I like to stay active and enjoy being outdoors. I am passionate about education and believe that it is a vital component to a productive society. I look forward to working with you to help ensure the success of your child.

Patti Murphy - Assistant Principal
My name is Patti Murphy. I am the Assistant Principal at Carl Sandburg.
I grew up in Cumberland County. I moved to Charleston in 1988, where we raised three sons who all attended the Charleston schools. I still live in Charleston with my husband and pets. I enjoy traveling to visit my sons and their families and hope to visit all 50 states someday.
I attended EIU and University of Illinois Springfield, where I majored in Elementary Education and Psychology. I received my Master's Degree from EIU in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement and in Administration. I have taught a variety of subjects and grades in the district. I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grades duirng my time as a Charleston teacher. I also served as the Jefferson Media Specialist for one year.
I am an avid reader and love being outside. My favorite treat is chocolate! I really enjoy watching our students grow and progress during the year and throughout their years here. I love when I get a chance to be a part of that growth.
