Attention Senior Girls: 

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship information packets are now available in the Guidance Office. This is a $2500.00 national scholarship awarded to graduating senior girls. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 4.0. The completed application packets are due back to the Guidance Office by Friday, September 25.

We would like to inform you that this year's application is now open for high school seniors. Only one application is needed for our National, State and Targeted scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. The application will close on October 25, 2020.

Lineworker's Scholarship
What is the LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker’s Scholarship?
This $2000 scholarship will help pay for costs to attend the lineworker's school conducted by the
Association of Illinois Electric Cooperative (AIEC) in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community
College, Springfield, IL. It was awarded for the first time in 2011.
Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?
One scholarship a year will be awarded to an individual who is related to a rural electric
cooperative employee or director in the State of Illinois; or is the son or daughter of an electric
cooperative member in Illinois; or is enrolled in the Lincoln Land lineworker’s school; or
has served or is serving in the U.S. armed forces or National Guard. The applicant must have a
high school diploma or a GED at the time the scholarship is awarded. (Please see the "LaVern

How are the recipients selected?
Scholarships are awarded based on an essay, a biographical statement, and references that will
be submitted.
How does someone apply?
To apply, the applicant must meet the required criteria as outlined in the "Official Rules &
Regulations" and complete the scholarship application available from the local electric
cooperative office. Each applicant is responsible for submitting all information required to apply

Lineworker's Scholarship

Official Rules & Regulations
One scholarship in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded each year.
Scholarship applicant must be
 A relative of an employee or director of an Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives
(AIEC) member electric cooperative ("Relative” is defined as son, daughter, stepson,
stepdaughter, niece, nephew, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, cousin, uncle or
aunt); or
 A son or daughter of an AIEC member electric cooperative member/consumer (who resides
in Illinois and is currently receiving service from the cooperative at the time the scholarship
application is submitted); or
 A Veteran (defined broadly as someone who has served or is currently serving at the time of
application in the active military, naval, or air service, or their Reserve components,
including the National and A i r National Guard, and w a s not dishonorably discharged); or
 A student enrolled in the electric distribution lineworker programs at Lincoln Land Community
Scholarship winner must begin the program within a year of receiving the award.
Scholarships are for one year and winners are allowed to reapply.
Scholarships will be awarded based on a short essay, biographical statement, and references.
Deadline for receipt of complete applications and submissions is April 30, 2021.
Scholarship winner will be notified early July 2021.
Winner will be expected to be recognized at the McDonough Power Cooperative Annual Meeting with Mr.
McEntire presenting the award (August or September).
Scholarship will be awarded to the applicant for tuition, fees and required equipment in attending Lincoln
Land Community College Electrical Distribution Lineworker programs
(Electrical Distribution Lineworker Maintenance Certificate; and
Electrical Distribution Lineworker Associates in Applied Science).
