Good Afternoon Ashmore Families. This is a friendly reminder on behalf of the Ashmore PTO, that all fundraising raffle tickets and the money collected need to be turned into the office tomorrow morning. Thank you so much for all the efforts to help support our school!!! The feedback and request for tickets has just been amazing!!!!
Good afternoon Ashmore families!!! It was so great to see all of our students back after what was hopefully a rested and peaceful break. Today, I am sending out a message on behalf of our amazing PTO. Our raffle ticket fundraiser is still happening. We have had several families request more tickets. Tickets can be picked up in the office. Just as a reminder, if there are any families that will not be using all of their tickets, please return those to the office. We can hand those out to students and families that have requested additional tickets. Also, any tickets already sold and money collected, can also be turned in to the office at any time. Thank you all for your support of Ashmore Elementary!!!!
Good Morning Ashmore Families, At the beginning of the school year, the district made hotspots available to families that elected to enroll in remote learning. As we closely monitor our student data, we are finding more and more students returning to in-person instruction district wide, and reducing the need for hotspot connection. Ashmore currently has all 99 students enrolled for in-person instruction. This is FANTASTIC, and we are so thrilled to be able to connect with our students in person everyday!!! As a district, we do ask that if you rented a hotspot at the beginning of the school year, that the hotspot please be returned to the school. Hotspots can be returned to myself or Becky in the office. Thank you for your cooperation and help in this matter.
Good Afternoon Ashmore Families, I know that it has been previous communicated through our monthly newsletter and by some teachers, that we would be able to pass out Valentine’s Day Cards at our Valentine’s Celebration; however, I regret to inform that is not going to be possible at this time in order for us to adhere to the consistency, safety, and fairness of all Charleston CUSD 1 students. We are disappointed and saddened that we will not be having a traditional celebration, but we will still be having classroom celebration that allows us to safely social distance and have fun with our Ashmore students. I apologize for any miscommunications or misunderstandings. Our greatest hope is to be celebrating normally and traditionally next school year. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
February 2021 -- Black History Month Theme: ‘Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity” This month, students at Ashmore School we will be learning about Black History Month through various lessons, websites, and discussions. The story of Black History Month begins in the year 1915. That year, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) was founded. They were dedicated to researching and promoting achievements by Black Americans and of people of African descent. In 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Since then, every following President has designated February as Black History Month, and has assigned a specific theme. The 2021 theme explores the African population movement, and the spread of Black families across the United States.
Good Morning Ashmore Families, On Thursday 1/14/2021 at 8:30 we will be having our annual Active Shooter Drill with the Coles County Sheriff's department. This is an annual drill required by the state of Illinois. We have been and will continue to review and practice our drill plan with all students this week. During the drill, students will practice evacuating the building with their class, and walking together to the Ashmore Fire Department. If there are any questions or concerns about this week's drill, please call 217-349-3000 or email me at email@example.com. Thank you for your time and support in keeping our Ashmore students prepared and safe.
We here at Ashmore Elementary would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our Ashmore community and families. We have been shown such generosity from our PTO, our families, and Ashmore United Presbyterian Church. We sincerely thank you all, and hope for a happy, healthy, and safe holiday for all!!!
This year as part of our school's Leader In Me goals, we wanted to take on the initiative of a community service project. We thought what better way to give back to our community during the holidays, than with a food drive! Our hope is that no one goes hungry this holiday season. We are so proud of our Ashmore students, who have been collecting donations since returning to in-person instruction. Each grade K-4 has helped to collect items that were delivered today to the Charleston and Ashmore Food Pantries.
With the schedule changes, students in classes with pre-scheduled meetings will need to update their Teams calendar. Here is a set of directions to help: https://5il.co/mtk1.
Just a reminder, Monday November 2nd will be a remote planning day for the Ashmore teachers. November 4th will be the first day of student attendance next week. Thank you!!
Thank you so much to the anonymous donor who graciously provided a Monical's lunch for the Ashmore teachers and staff members. Your generosity and thoughtfulness made us feel so light-hearted and appreciated today!!!
Please be advised that there have been changes made to the Ashmore Building Re-Opening Plan.
Good Afternoon Ashmore Families!!! If you haven't already done so, could you please take a moment to fill out the new return to school survey that has recently been posted on the district website. The more school data we have, the better prepared we will be to serve our students! We've slowly been bringing small groups in this week, and it has been just a joy seeing kiddos in the building working hard and forming relationships with their teachers!!! We thank you all for your continued support and patience during these trying times!!! The link to the survey can be found here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=ZVmoXzSDt0eo3d9OfKD91Sl4MXJkEZZAoTF45J5-XqFUOEVJNjNQUlBRTDVOVjlOSkJJVkk2MExJUy4u

Happy Friday Ashmore Families!!! We are closing out Week 3 of Remote Learning today. I've been able to join some classrooms this morning, and I am SO impressed with what I am seeing of our Ashmore students' participation for live meetings!! I would like to just send a reminder that teachers are taking traditional grades this quarter for assignments. Please remind your student to turn work in as he or she is completing activities. We now there has been some issues with Empower, so if there is any difficulty in getting assignments turned in, please let us know. Keep up the AMAZING work, and BRING ON Week 4!!!!
Good Morning Ashmore Families! As our second week of remote learning comes to a close, I would just like to pass on a few friendly reminders of classroom expectations. It is very important that when our classroom teachers give the direction for students to mute themselves, that students are staying muted. Just like in a normal classroom setting, it is very distracting to the learning environment when others are talking, and now in our virtual classrooms when there is additional background noises. This is new to us all, and we understand a learning curve is needed. As we start week 3 on Monday, lets continue to work together to help out our Amazing Ashmore teachers, and be respectful to our fellow classmates!!
Ashmore Families just an FYI!! If your child is trying to log into Microsoft Teams, please make sure your child’s email address and password are used to log in. We are finding many personal devices are auto filling parents email information, and not allowing to connect.
Good Afternoon Ashmore Families!!! You should be receiving a mailed copies of parental and student login information for the Empower program. Copies were mailed out this afternoon.
Good Morning Ashmore Families!! Ashmore Elementary will be hosting and scheduling Meet the Teacher sessions starting August 31st-September 2nd. Please be on the look out for a telephone call or email from your child's classroom teacher next week. During these sessions will also be the opportunity to pick up supplies and materials that the school is providing during this period of remote learning. When coming in for scheduled Meet the Teacher Sessions a face mask is required, and we ask that only one parent accompany the student in order to maintain best social distancing practices and limit the number of bodies in the building. We are all working very hard to get this school year kicked off, and look forward to meeting with all of our students and families!!!! ~Kristen Brown, Principal Ashmore Elementary
