Back to School Night:

Back to School Night is held each year at the very beginning of the year. On this night, parents meet with their child's teacher and find out what they can expect for the school year.

Registration Procedure

Registration will be approximately 3 weeks before school starts and is held at the high school.  Please watch for the specific dates in the local Times-Courier newspaper.  

Please note that all 6th grade students must have a dental exam and a physical prior to school starting.  ANYONE transferring from out of state MUST show proof of an Illinois physical. If you are new to the district you MUST have the following with you:

  • Proof of birth date:

a certified birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport

  • Immunization Record:

record of immunizations to date

  • Proof of residence:

a current bill, plus one of the following:
bank statement, credit card bill, other utility bill

The following are not considered acceptable proof of residence:

·         Escrow Papers

·         Rental Agreement

The following are Required Immunizations:

·         Polio: 4 doses (3 doses if last one was given after the 4th birthday)

·         DPT: 5 doses (4 doses if last one was given after the 4th birthday)

·         MMR: 2 doses (1st dose on or after the 1st birthday)

·         HEP B: 3 doses

·         Chicken Pox: (1 dose on or after 1st birthday)

After-School Care

The Charleston Parks and Recreation Department works with Charleston Schools to provide after-school care.  Students are supervised and the following activities take place:  homework completion, board games, outdoor activity, etc.

Breakfast and Lunch Program

·  Charleston School District is sponsoring a district-wide breakfast and hot lunch program, run by Aramark Food Service Company.

·  Please note the monthly menus and program details that can be found on this website.  These menus are created by Aramark.

·  Breakfast is available for $1.10. Lunch including milk will be available for $1.80 per child. Small water bottles and milk alone will also be available during lunchtime for $ .40. Free and reduced lunches are available from the School District for children whose family income falls within federal requirements. Applications are available in the office at any time during the school year.

·  Students will be given their own 5-digit pin number to access their account during each breakfast and lunch purchaseDeposits should be made in the cafeteria before 10:30 a.m. with cash (in an envelope with students name on it) or checks (payable to CUSD #1).  Students may pay with cash during breakfast or lunch time, but this is not encouraged.  Pin numbers and balances from last year will be carried over unless a refund is requested.
