Language Arts

Language Arts in eighth grade at CMS involves a great deal of writing. Students will write in journals as well as numerous essays that are expository, persuasive, and narrative in nature. Students will begin the year by looking at the writing process by using their textbook along with the 6 + 1 writing traits to improve their writing. In March students will take the ISAT writing test which will test their proficiency for narrative and persuasive writing. Students in Mr. Nance's Language Arts class will also be involved in a new vocabulary building program called  Word Sorts. They will also diagram sentences, study good sentence writing to improve style, complete daily language exercises, study poetry, write a research paper, and prepare and deliver an informative speech.
