AP European History

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students an introduction to the cultural, economic, political, and social developments of European history from 1450 to the present. "Without this knowledge, we would all lack the context for understanding the development of contemporary institutions, the role of conflict and continuity in present-day society and politics, and the evolution of current forms of artistic expression and intellectual discourse" (The College Board, 2003). At the end of this course, students will possess an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European history, an ability to analyze historical evidence, and an ability to analyze and to express historical understanding in writing. AP European History is a college-level course taught in high school. Therefore, levels of academic work inside and outside of the classroom are extremely rigorous and unlike most other courses taught at the high school.
